Ambient sounds can be hear too.

Numerous clouds were still spresent one hour before first contact.

Eole did a good job cleaning them thereafter.

The only picture I took on that day. The reasons are explained at the end of the page .
Myself in action with my friendly roomate, Jacques Pelletier from Vancouver, BC

I was not aware yet that the jink will strike me very soon

More important the sky is cloud free.

A successful eclipse but empty handed why ?

I succeded to come back brom my Russian campain totally exausted by these never ending security inspections in airport. To be kidding I say that it would have been preferable to be at the airport 3 days before my flight.

I want also to appologize to send any messages by Internet during that trip but it is not easy to get online in Vladimir Poutine's county. Internet connections cost a bundle from the hotel and I didn't have time to find an Internet cafe in that country.

Furthermore the sightseeing program didn't gave time to breathe. :-(

Please come back to the essential and I will try to explain what went wrong ?

The good new is that I succeded to see the eclipse with 500 other fanatics on that beach located 30 km south of Novosibirsk. A clear and cloudless sky was quite a contrast the day before with intermitent rain.

The bad new is that my automatic picture taking malfunctionned despite numerous practice run before I left Montreal. Here is a short list of these glitches :

  1. Difficulty to see my laptop display in bright daylight. I had to invent a darkening system on the spot.

  2. My laptop cursor refused to move until I noticed that a mouse special button have been pressed accidently.

  3. Lost contact from my camera to the computer lost less than a minute before totality. The battery was not to plame because it was full charged at this moment.

  4. My other camera, a Nikon D50, used to take ordinary pictures refused to work during totality and work again after that.

  5. My digital tape recorder used to record ambients sounds stop recording 55 sec. before totality.
I'm just wondering if these eclipses can cause interference to electronic equipement.

Despite all these glitches, I enjoyed that eclipse. For the first time I looked to a totality like an non amateur astronomer can does it.

The Sun was very quiet. The corona was obviously less spectaculat thant the 2006 eclipse. It remembered me tje feb. 26 1998 corona seen in Guadeloupe. 2 streamers seen on the east side and one large one on the west site. Only one little proeminence have been visible. .

The landscape was not so dark and only Mercury and Venis were clearly visible. I failed to locate M44, Mars and Saturn.

In conclusion I plan to come back to a more simple and reliable picture taking system. The acronym KISS will be apply you can be sure.
